We continue our month of LOVE thinking about how to love the environment while we travel. We all want what’s best for the planet, right? If you love to travel like I do, there are many ways to lessen your carbon footprint while still expanding your horizons in seeing the world. The first and biggest step is just simply being aware that there are impacts when tourism is the main industry of an area. Here are some of the top destinations for low environmental impact that you may not think if when you hear “sustainable travel”.
1. Sweden In 1995, Sweden was the first country to initiate a carbon tax for carbon intensive fuels, extremely reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels. All public transportation in Sweden is run 100% on renewable energy. Eco-friendly accommodations and experiences abound in Sweden giving you every chance to explore natural and city life without disturbing the land!
2. Bordeaux, France Who wouldn’t want to visit the largest wine growing region in the world? Bordeaux is pioneering sustainable wine tourism with vineyards certified for their environmental efforts reducing the use of pesticides.
3. Alaska
Did you know Alaska is the most sustainable state in the United States? Its “Leave No Trace” guidelines were developed to help preserve the beauty of this amazing state while encouraging immersion in local culture. Responsible travel and tourism in Alaska is an important way to support the fragile ecosystem and keep its wilderness pristine!
If you are ready to explore, book a vacation planning call.
Cheers,
Amy
P.S. I ditched the plastic containers of shampoo, laundry detergent and such and use pressed sheets and bars instead. Do you have a favorite planet friendly item? Please share as I am always looking for more ways to be more environmentally friendly.
